Dig deep for bush fire victims

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FRONT PAGE -

IMAGES of the horrendous bushfires devastating properties and people’s lives in New South Wales have prompted two Douglas businesses to launch an appeal.

Michael Kerr, Coles manager Jason Smith, together with Mel Motley have joined forces to help those who have lost everything.

A bin has been placed at the front of the Coles Supermarket to collect nonperishable items, while Target will also receive cash donations for the Fire Appeal.

‘‘People can donate items, but we’re appealing for donors to only leave clean items in good condition,’’ Ms Motley said.

‘‘Jason has arranged for donated goods to be trucked to the areas in need in New South Wales.’’

Mr Kerr said he had put the appeal on Facebook and was heartened by the intial response.
