THE Cairns Regional Council has moved to ensure water restrictions can be implemented promptly if the need arises.

Water levels in the Rex Creek catch- ment are being closely monitored, with the potential for water restrictions to be implemented if the water supply falls to a critical level.

To avoid such a decision having to be made at a regular Council meeting, it has provided delegated authority to CEO Peter Tabulo, in consultation with mayor Bob Manning and Water and Waste committee chair Cr Richie Bates, to implement the restrictions if required. Council recently began to contact media to alert the community that water restrictions were likely unless significant rainfall occurred within days.
