Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FRONT PAGE -

AFTER all the focus on local politics is over, why not lighten up with some local music and fun in the sun at one of the region’s favourite watering holes?

On Saturday November 9, everyone is invited to Rock The Yacht and watch the sun go down while listening to some talented musicians from around the region at the Port Douglas Yacht Club.

Kicking off at 3pm and for a cover charge of only $10 per person, this is one party you won’t want to miss.

With a line up so far consisting of Sweet As, Willow, Saxy Fingers, Good Counsel, Antipodylans, Tonic and two bands from Cairns – The Mess and No Hype.

PDYC club manager Richard Stapleton said it is sure to be a good day.

‘‘It is a good chance for all the hard working locals to celebrate the end of a long season,’’ he said.

‘‘I think it is a great spot for a cold one.

‘‘A great opportunity to support local talent and there is also some fresh blood from Cairns thrown into the mix.’’

All of the cover charge cash from the event goes directly to the bands.

Popular local act Willow said she is really looking forward to the event.

‘‘I’ve been lucky enough to play at the Yachty before and can’t wait to play there again,’’ she said.

‘‘It’s such a unique venue, possibly one of the most unique venues you’ll find simply because of the location and the incredible backdrop of the inlet and the mountains in the distance.

‘‘The crowd at the Yachty are also really friendly and the atmosphere is one of the last old school rock places left.

‘‘It should be a great day, I’m really excited about this one.

‘‘Get your backsides down there and support local music, have a laugh and a few cold beers at a great venue – it’ll be a cracker!’’

Tickets at the door, open from 3pm-11pm.
