Mareeba too strong
THE Under-14 Muddies took on the toostrong Mareeba Gold at the Muddie Pit.
A slight breeze kept the weather perfect for Saturday morning cricket as Mareeba batted first and the two openers made themselves at home, facing 40 balls together, the partnership made 28 runs before Green retired and Carlsson was caught by Tex McDowall off a ball from Finn Stanaway (1/22 off 3).
The next two Mareeba batsman were not going anywhere in a hurry either, until top scoring batter Martin was brought down by bowler Daniel Davidson (1/7 off 3) and a tidy catch from Levi Trewick(0/1 off 3). Keel Sorensen (1/9 off 3) and Reuben Allison (0/4 off 3) teamed up to take the last wicket of the day from the Golds, Mareeba finishing on 3 for 110.
Batting action from the Muddies was varied; top scorer of the day was Deuble on 13 off 18 balls.
Four of its batsmen went out for a duck, but newcomer Brayden Wall showed he has what it takes, hitting a nice boundary ball before being bowled by one of Mareeba’s spinners.
Stayers of the day were Josh Edward and Sorensen who both retired after their first 40 balls and were able to come back in at the end and bat out a few more of our overs. Mareeba enjoyed a clear win with Muddies all out (10 for 60) at the 29th over.
Congratulations to Josh Edward on being selected for the Cricket Far North Under-12 development squad and best of luck to the other boys on the team who are still involved in trials for the older grade rep teams.
