Leu remanded until Dec 4
DIVISION 10 councillor and Douglas Shire Council mayoral candidate Julia Leu is remanded to appear in court to face a DUI charge on December 4.
Last month police charged the councillor with drink driving in Mossman, after she recorded a blood alcohol count of .071.
The charge states that Ms Leu did drive over the general alcohol limit but not over the middle alcohol limit. She had been charged with one offence. Representing Ms Leu in the Mossman Magistrates Court yesterday was Bolt Burchill Tranter lawyer Michael Bolt, who requested an adjournment on behalf of his client. Magistrate Braes said that considering Ms Leu failed to appear he had to issue a warrant for her arrest, but he postponed the warrant because she was legally represented. ‘‘The difficulty I face is that it’s a notice to appear and it’s a drink driving charge,’’ Magistrate Braes said in court. ‘‘I hereby issue a warrant for her arrest and [she is] remanded to appear on December 4. The warrant is postponed until December 4.’’
