Cairns re­gion a tough mar­ket for renters

RENTAL va­cancy rates are very tight in the Cairns re­gion.

The lat­est REIQ res­i­den­tial rental va­cancy rate sur­vey re­sults showed the va­cancy rate in ‘‘the Cairns re­gion’’ is 1.6 per cent as of last Septem­ber, which is slight lower than the same month a year pre­vi­ously.

An­thing less than a va­cancy rate of3 per cent is re­garded as ‘‘tight’’.

At the end of Septem­ber this year, the di­vide in rental mar­ket con­di­tions be­tween the re­source and non-re­source re­gions of Queens­land con­tin­ued, ac­cord­ing to the lat­est Real Es­tate In­sti­tute of Queens­land (REIQ) data.

The lat­est REIQ res­i­den­tial rental va­cancy rate sur­vey re­sults showed de­mand within South East Queens­land re­main­ing strong, with most mar­kets post­ing a 2.5 per cent or less rate of va­cancy.
