Moneghetti told News Ltd that while he started as favourite he didn’t feel any pres­sure to break the tape first.

‘‘Be­lieve it or not, I don’t go in with the in­ten­tion to win th­ese races,’’ he said.

‘‘I just go out to have a good day, re­spect the dis­tance and en­joy the com­pany.’’

The marathon fea­tured beach and rain­for­est sec­tions, with the steep climbs of the Bump Track mak­ing the big­gest im­pres­sion on Moneghetti.

‘‘That was re­ally hard that part,’’ he said.

‘‘Not many marathons have a track like that go­ing up.

‘‘But at least you can try to en­joy it on the way down.’’
