New KIND committee

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FRONT PAGE -

KIDS In Need Donations Inc have a new committee. Danielle Bellero is president, Nadine Lowenstein Jones becomes vice-president, Ann Marie Clarke continues as treasurer, with Erin Mullane as secretary. Denise Landers continues as the parent liaison, sharing these important duties with Ann Marie Clark.

As departing president I wished the new committee well and said I was confident the committee will continue to guide this invaluable community organisation, to ensure funds are readily available to assist those in need in the local area. This past year we have assisted more than 15 local families, and raised a significant amount through various fund raising ventures, donations and grants. It is important to emphasise all funds raised by KIND are retained within the local community, and as a volunteer organisation only a tiny fraction of the fund is taken up by administration overheads. KIND also holds Donor Gift Recipient ( DGR) tax status meaning any donation greater than $2 can be claimed as a tax deduction by the donor.

The final KIND fund raising event of the year was held at Harrison’s Restaurant for their fantastic Melbourne Cup luncheon. KIND was so excited to be working alongside Harrison’s again, after the successful High Tea in May.

The successful bidder of the winning horse was aptly purchased by Harrison’s owner Reina Patrick, who has been such a firm supporter of KIND. Not only did KIND benefit from fund raising on the day with the Calcutta and Sweeps, but $5 from each ticket sold went to KIND and Harrison’s also donated an amazing degustation dinner for our Silent Auctions which was hotly contested. Two other Silent Auction items, one donated by Teppanaki Port Douglas and Mandalay, the other by Ulysses Getaways, were vied for over lunch, raising $ 3610. Prizes for Best Dressed Lady (donations by Splish Splash, MAASS Hair, Thala Beach & Attitudes) & Best Dressed Gent (Tommy Bahamas, Palmer Reef Golf Club & Norseman), Best Fascinator (donated by Mel Ferrero Millinery) and door and spot prizes (Aquarius Sunset Sail & K-Star Walking Tours) were made possible by the bighearted donations of local businesses.
