Big bash pool to finish
THE two spots in the Muddies Big Bash T20 cricket final will be determined in the last pool game after the Sheraton Five Stars despatched the Port Douglas Royals to Mad Saturday celebrations last Friday at the Mud Pit.
The Royals were hoping to notch their first win of the season in beautiful conditions for T20 cricket and keep alive their slim finals hopes.
Daniel Redfern and his Five Star team didn’t get the memo though, batting first and putting on a highly competitive 7 for 117 off the allotted overs.
The majority of the runs were put on by Redfern (35no) in a captain’s knock and Steve Doble (30no) in a solid supporting role with Norm adding a well compiled 12.
Kaiden Sorenson took the honours with the ball, taking 2 for 4 off two overs, and Jonesy taking 1 for 5 off his two overs.
The Royals chase started in their usual steady fashion and missing their leading run scorer, Luke, they needed someone to stand up and take on the Sheraton’s solid bowling line up. Dazza (10), big-hitting Grant (10) and Ryan (13) were the only Royals in double figures, with the Five Stars restricting the chasers to only 64 0ff 14 overs. Brain was the chief destroyer, taking the best figures for the season with his 3 for 10 off 2 overs.
The win to the Fives Stars sets up a sizzling last round with the B Team Blasters needing to beat ladder-topping IGA Tavern Bandits to secure a finals berth. It starts at 6.30 at the Mud Pit.
