Jnr Raiders continue streak

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - CLASSIFIEDS -

THE Under-10 Raiders played TAS on Friday night, and made it three wins on the trot. After training on their rucking skills during the week, the boys showed much better ball control at the breakdowns and setting up their back line.

From the kick off the Raiders’ rampaging forward pack crushed the TAS attacking line, with strong defence by Ethan the Hulk Chesterfield and Jaidyn the Cruise Missile Osborne, with Brodie the Hammer Francis and Lewis the Rock Duncan setting the rucks.

This provided a strong platform for our half back, Lightning Legs Tyson Osborne prepping the backs for many a raid on TAS’s defensive line.

The first half saw Kye the Rampaging Bull Durie blast through the defence to score the first his of two tries of the night, followed shortly after by Tysie and Hamish, a TAS defector.

After a talk at half time about ball security and passing along the back line, the boys ran out with fire in their bellies. It wasn’t long before they put more points on the board, with Heath the Freight Train Duncan’s straight and hard ball running, and the forwards working hard at the ruck.

This opened the door for Tysie to use his speed and step to cross for his second try. Soon after, the boys let their guard down and TAS got the chance to put on two tries back to back. This not only closed the gap but also shocked the Raiders into playing structured rugby. When fullback Ryan the Sidewinder Hawking chimed in to the back line he caused havoc for the TAS defence, which gave Big Ethan the chance to bust through the line to score his first try of the season.

The Raiders crossed for six tries in all with five conversions bringing the tally to 40. TAS converted both their tries giving them 14 points for the night.

All the boys put in a stellar performance. This week will see the boys working hard on defence and line out moves.

Last home game this week is at Raider Park. Under-10 kick off is at 6pm.
