Passion for the shire

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FRONT PAGE -

THE electors of the Douglas Shire have chosen the new council. It is pleasing to see so many people showing an interest in the new council and congratulations must go to not only the mayor elect Julia Leu and the new councillors elect, but also to all candidates who invested so much time and energy during the election campaign. Whilst there is no doubt there will be many challenges facing the councillors and staff in securing a strong balance sheet and financial position for the council as part of the transition/deamalgamation process we all have a common and optimistic passion for the Douglas Shire. It is this passion that will allow us to work together to achieve prosperity and stability for the Shire. It is clear is that the elected mayor and councillors have a variety of skills and opinions which will allow them to work together to effectively manage and progress the organisation according to community views and expectations, over the next two years. I take this opportunity to thank all of those people who assisted and supported me during the election. Special acknowledgement must go to the Gazette and its acting Editor Shane Nichols and staff for providing informative and balanced media reporting during the campaign period.
