Heritage, landscape, the best guide to exterior colours

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FRONT PAGE -

PAINT companies predict that, next year, neutral shades are out for interiors while bright and bold shades are in. Design consultant Harley Anstee, from Nexus Designs, recommends looking for colours in the immediate landscape. It is probably why on Queensland’s coastline blue is a big seller. He recalls one year when they were conducting market research, a particular blue kept popping up as popular in the Sunshine State.

Colorbond decided to market its Deep Ocean in Queensland only. ‘‘Then people from New South Wales and other states saw that colour and wanted it.’’ It is now available nationally.

His other advice is to choose a colour appropriate to the style of housing. If you really want a colour that will withstand the test of time, some of which have been in the Colorbond collection for 15 years.
