T20 Bandits make the final

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - CLASSIFIEDS -

THE IGA Tavern Bandits emphatically locked in a spot in the inaugural Muddies Big Bash final after knocking the B Team Blasters out of contention.

The Bandits will meet the Sheraton Five Stars in what will be a great night of short form cricket. The Blasters won the toss and sent the Bandits boys in to bat, hoping to restrict the run rate and set up a measured chase. The decision looked to be a sound one with regular wickets falling for the Bandits who were at one stage five for 44 after some tight bowling by evergreen Keith Taylor (2 for 8 off 2 overs).

A big hitting partnership between Kain (18) and Johnny (27) took the score to 88 with Bucket adding more valuable runs to get the final score to 128 off 18 overs.

Mark Barnes and Jonathan Gagen bowled well to take 2 for 16 and 2 for 19 respectively and restrict the big hitting Bandits to a gettable score. The chase never really got off the ground for the Blasters with some tight bowling and great fielding choking the B Team out of the competition. Seven of the Blasters batters conceded less than five runs off their allotted two overs and only Ben (19), Hayden and all-rounder Mark making double figures, the poorly titled Blasters completed their 20 overs scoring just 70 runs. The result ensures the IGA sponsored team will take on the Sheraton team in what will be a high scoring final after over 260 runs were scored in the pool game between the two teams.A curtain raiser will be held between local Muddies juniors starting at 3.45 with the main event to tee off at 7.00.
