Lazy Lizard a flat out winner
TRAVELLERS using TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site, have voted Best Western Lazy Lizard Motor Inn the Top Bargain Hotel, Top Small Hotel and Top Hotel for Romance in the annual 2014 Travellers’ Choice awards.
Jim and Penny Ewan, who have owned Best Western Lazy Lizard Motor Inn in Port Douglas for four years, said they were thrilled to be voted among Australia’s top 118 hotels who were recognised for accommodation excellence based on opinions and reviews from travellers on TripAdvisor.
‘‘We’re so humbled to win three awards, it’s really nice to know that our guests enjoy staying with us,’’ Mr Ewan said.
Already a multi award-winning hotel, Best Western Lazy Lizard Motor Inn last year received a TripAdvisor 2013 Certificate of Excellence, an award also based on global guest reviews ranking the hotel in the top 10 per cent of accommodation suppliers listed on the travel site. The hotel also won Best Western Australasia’s Highest Customer Care Score in 2012, presented at the annual Best Western Awards for Excellence gala dinner, and was runner-up for this award again in 2013.
Rob Anderson, Best Western Australasia chief executive, congratulated Jim and Penny on their three Travellers’ Choice awards, saying their commitment to great customer service is only one of the reasons people love staying at Best Western Lazy Lizard Motor Inn.
‘‘A lot of hard work and dedication goes into running a hotel, but it’s the way Jim and Penny go above and beyond to help their guests that shows why they’re winning much more than just accommodation awards. They’re winning the hearts of their guests, giving people a home away from home, and this is why travellers keep returning to Port Douglas,’’ Mr Anderson said.
Mr Ewan has seen many guests come and go over the years, often arriving as strangers and leaving as friends.
‘‘We had one family who came all the way from the United Kingdom just to stay with us, because they were told by their UK friends to make sure they passed through Port Douglas to see the Lazy Lizard while they were holidaying in Australia. Since then, they’ve returned three times to see us and we’ve developed a kind of friendship that you can’t replace.
‘‘It’s the people that make running a hotel so special,’’ Mr Ewan said.
