THE Douglas Shire Council will today hold a special meeting to appoint a new chief executive, with an announcement expected next week.
The current acting-CEO, Jeff Tate, who established the council and its structure as transfer manager, is finishing in March and the council needs to find a new CEO.
Mayor Julia Leu said after a national search, they are in the final stages of the recruitment process.
‘‘We were very pleased to get 33 applicants and following a shortlisting process we interviewed last Thursday and carried out extensive referee checks,’’ she said.
‘‘At today’s special meeting council will agree on the successful applicant and I will be given the authority to finalise all matters in relation to the appointment.
‘‘I expect to be in a position to announce our new CEO next week.’’
