CEO up­date

THE Dou­glas Shire Coun­cil will to­day hold a spe­cial meet­ing to ap­point a new chief ex­ec­u­tive, with an an­nounce­ment ex­pected next week.

The cur­rent act­ing-CEO, Jeff Tate, who es­tab­lished the coun­cil and its struc­ture as trans­fer man­ager, is fin­ish­ing in March and the coun­cil needs to find a new CEO.

Mayor Ju­lia Leu said af­ter a na­tional search, they are in the fi­nal stages of the recruitment process.

‘‘We were very pleased to get 33 ap­pli­cants and fol­low­ing a short­list­ing process we in­ter­viewed last Thurs­day and car­ried out ex­ten­sive ref­eree checks,’’ she said.

‘‘At to­day’s spe­cial meet­ing coun­cil will agree on the suc­cess­ful ap­pli­cant and I will be given the author­ity to fi­nalise all mat­ters in re­la­tion to the ap­point­ment.

‘‘I ex­pect to be in a po­si­tion to an­nounce our new CEO next week.’’
