Superfund’s big returns
LOADING up on international shares elevated the returns for AustSafe Super, an industry superannuation fund which claims to be the only industry super fund dedicated to rural and regional Australia.
It did so well that it is among the top performing funds for 2013, racking up gangbuster returns in some of its funds which posted as much as 19.90 per cent gains in one year.
The latest superannuation fund Crediting Rate Survey released by SuperRatings named AustSafe Super’s MySuper (Balanced) Investment Option for Industry and Personal Super among the Top 10 Performing Super Funds for 2013 with a strong return of 18.46 per cent for the year ended December 31, 2013.
Impressively, this performance is not just over the short term, with the MySuper (Balanced) Investment Option providing a 10-year average return of 7.42 per cent per annum December 31.
This performance is also reflected in the average return to June 30, 2013 of 9.27 per annum since inception of the investment option on August 31, 1988.
The Balanced Investment Option for Pension accounts returned 19.90 per cent for the year ended December 31, 2013.
AustSafe Super chief executive Craig Stevens said ‘‘we have achieved such a strong performance in a period where markets have remained uncertain. This consistent performance is testament to a hardworking super fund,’’ he said.
‘‘The fund during the early part of the year increased its allocation to international shares, which helped to achieve strong results for the members as international shares outperformed all other asset classes.
‘‘Super is a 40-plus year investment and as an industry super fund we aim to achieve consistent strong investment returns over the longer term as demonstrated by our ‘since inception’ return of 9.27 per cent for the MySuper (Balanced) Investment Option,’’ Mr Stevens said.
He said AustSafe Super is the only industry super fund dedicated to rural and regional Australia, and has been looking after the retirement savings of members for over 25 years.
