Dolls take on Maidens
IT’S the season opener you’ve been waiting for – Cairns Derby Dolls are taking on the Mackay City Roller Maidens in an epic showdown.
The date is Saturday, February 22, at the Cairns Recreation Centre. Doors open at 6.30 pm, and the match is 7.30pm - 9.00pm.
Join the teams after the bout at The Cairns Courthouse Hotel, the official party venue.
After forming in 2012 Cairns Derby Dolls have gone from strength to strength. They have travelled throughout Far Northern Queensland and taken on teams from Airlie Beach to Townsville.
‘‘This first time taking on Mackay City Roller Maidens and we look forward to skating with them and providing great entertainment full of spills and thrills,’’ a team member told the Gazette.
Their debut home bout in September was a great success and they are hoping to host another home bout early in the season this year.
The Derby Dolls also hope to travel to Port Douglas to put on a demo match with Port Douglas’s own Derby Divas.
Port Douglas women recently formed their own league – come on down, check out the action and maybe you too could become a member of the fast-growing Roller Derby. For the Cairns clash, bring cash as the bar will be open, the raffle will be running and merchandise will be available but there’s no EFTPOS on site.
Tickets for February 22 will be available through Oztix you’re best to buy online as there will be limited tickets at the door. Adults pay $10 and kids under 12 get in free.
