Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

FOR the Port Douglas Reef Raiders, the 2013 season seems to have blended straight into the fresh season.

The dedicated clubmen and women have worked right through to get the new clubhouse ready for the new season.

The junior Raiders did the club proud in the off season with the under tens team that formed a couple of weeks into the season running undefeated, a fantastic effort for a group of players brought together a the last minute, along with the other two sides performing exceptionally well over their season.

Raider Shane Branch said it had been a successful and busy off season for the club.

‘‘It was all hands on deck from the caravan on the hill, as stage one of our club rooms was born, on the side of our ‘‘Field of Dreams’’ driven by club president Adam Calcraft and a team of club members, generous sponsors and many keen volunteers and experts we have, stage one near complete and near an operational status.’’

Training has now commenced at the club every Tuesday and Thursday.

The annual Port Douglas 7s competition will take place on March 1 and the grand opening of the clubhouse will be March 15.
