Hotel deserves new future

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FEEDBACK -

I would be the first person to agree that the Exchange Hotel Mossman deserves a bright future which is why I, as owner at the time, gave my permission for the hotel to be nominated for Heritage Listing. It wasn’t that we didn’t have ‘‘the vision’’ to do what the new owners have planned, we just didn’t have the upfront capital nor good economic times. The people in Mossman who know us and know the story behind what happened with the Daintree Inn will confirm that no-one loved that pub more than us. Ask them. Ask about the hours we put in to making it a better place, how we had planned on staying there forever, how those ‘‘rough and tumble’’ customers of ours were like family to us and how we did make some nice changes to the hotel’s interior. The decision to place the Daintree Inn into voluntary administration was not an easy one, it was infact heartbreaking and without wanting to sound too emotional about it all, the saying goodbye has been like a death for me. I truly wish the new owners of The Exchange all the very best and am glad they are able to restore this very dear hotel to its former glory and hope that the people in Mossman give them their full support because that pub is worth it.
