C’s take out Norths

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

SOME late juggling of players between grades saw C grade skipper Doble miscalculate his player numbers and enter the game a player short.

Fortunately the use of a mobile phone behind the wickets located an extra player who arrived in time to bolster the fielding although Norths dribbled runs as slow as the outfield that still sees grass 3cm higher than the ball!

Scheisser was miserly with 2/10, Shulz found some venom to return 4/15, Redfern created the pressure for his fellow bowlers deserving more than his 0/15 along with Porter who returned the same stats and Barnes typically troubled all batsmen with 1/14.

Some 13 wides and 6 no-balls assisted Norths to a mere 7/70 after 30 overs.

Muddies rewarded the late fill-in player Dan Harris with an opening position with Marsh who was time constrained, having to head for work.

The few overs he had in time were not realised as he attempted to turn a ball on leg and edged to gully for 1, although not as hard a catch as he had completed himself in the Norths innings, 1/16. Veteran player and Life Member Randall Malander came in at 3 and made 3, while Harris batted very patiently pushing singles into grass that allowed nothing more for a total of 35no, supported by Wall (2) Taylor (1) and the newcomer still demonstrating his true worth in all areas of the game Porter (9no). Muddies won with 7 overs to spare. The weather is hopefully less likely to intervene this weekend with 3rd placed C grade Muddies Vs top of table Mareeba at Mareeba Sunday afternoon.
