Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - FEEDBACK -

Referring to ‘‘ Make that five’’ (Letters, February 20), yes it would be good to have unlimited funds to spend on the Cook Highway, however it is disturbing that the contributor was aggravated at the allocation of funds to save the lives of cyclists by improving safety at roundabouts and was also aggravated at the use of the Cook Highway by cyclists. Public roads are open to all road users, including slow vehicles such as tractors, cane haulers and bicycles. Anything that can be done to save the lives of road users is important and worthwhile. When next passing a cyclist please remember that person is somebody’s father, mother or child. If you have to slow down in order to pass when it is safe, please do not despair as your delay will only take a few moments and your patience and courtesy may well save a life. As a cyclist I greatly appreciate the fact that motorists give me plenty room when passing me on the roads. Thank you for your tolerance and consideration.
