IT seems the beautiful rainforest of the region is the inspiration for art, music and books, with a fun children’s book series based on the dust particles that live among the Daintree Rainforest becoming the newest publication to hit the shelves.
The Adventures of Dusty and Denise, the Dust Particles - the Daintree Rainforest and The Adventures of Dusty and Denise, the Dust Particles - All Aboard, were penned by W.E. Mackay.
Ms Mackay lives in Melbourne but is often in the region as her parents live in the Daintree.
The stories see dust particles named Dusty and Denise on various adventures through the Daintree Rainforest, encountering other dust particles as they travel around the region, sometimes with others and sometimes just the two of them.
Ms Mackay said the books had been a long time in the making.
‘‘I had wanted to write a book for years,’’ she said.
‘‘A trip to visit my parents last year saw the idea of Dusty and Denise crystallise.
‘‘I was sitting on the verandah and watching the dust particles float past in the sunlight, and after discussing it with my parents, the story quickly came to life in my head.’’
Ms Mackay said the aim of the books was for kids to enjoy reading something that was fun and educational.
‘‘It’s a great way for parents/ grandparents and guardians to interact with their children.
‘‘It’s great for kids to experience a variety of books and get to know characters.
‘‘(And) for kids to enjoy reading time with their parents.’’
