Mud­dies out front

THE Un­der 14 Mud­dies trav­elled south and played In­n­is­fail Storms for the first half of a two dayer at Chappa Chappa Park South John­ston on Satur­day 22 Fe­bru­ary.

With every­where Cairns and north drenched by rain the teams were lucky to get in their match at In­n­is­fail.

Mud­dies player Bray­den Wall won the toss and selected to bat first. Mud­dies open­ers were Cur­tis White and Levi Trewick who bat­ted well for four overs un­til un­til Cur­tis was bowled on two runs. Next bats­men Keel Sorensen came to the crease and Levi and Keel put on a good part­ner­ship un­til Keel was caught on the 18th over and was out for 11 runs. Reuben Al­li­son was the next bats­men and he and Levi con­tin­ued to make un­til Levi had to re­tire on 49 not out af­ter fac­ing 50 balls. Tex McDowall joined Reuben and they bat­ted to­gether un­til Reuben was caught for 16 runs in the 25 over. Ryan Doble was in next and he and Tex con­tin­ued mak­ing runs un­til Tex was out with LBW for 1 run af­ter the 28 over. Rex Hawkes was next to bat and was un­for­tu­nate to be bowled for a first ball duck. Finn Stan­away bat­ted next un­til Ryan was out for 3 runs. Ninth bats­men Bray­den Wall went in to bat but was un­for­tu­nate to be bowled out for a duck af­ter the 30th over. Daniel David­son was next bats­men and he and Finn bat­ted out the last 2 overs with Mud­dies fin­ish­ing their 32 over first in­nings on 7/125.

It was time for In­n­is­fail to bat and Mud­dies open­ing bowlers Cur­tis and Daniel bowled tight with Daniel mak­ing a run out in the third over as­sisted by wick­et­keeper Nathan. Ryan and Rex bowled first drop with Ryan tak­ing a wicket in each of his two overs whilst Rex bowled two maid­ens from his 3 overs. Finn and Levi both took a wicket each with In­n­is­fail at 5/37 at drinks. Tex and Bray­den bowled with great im­prove­ment keep­ing the batting runs low as did Reuben bowl­ing a maiden. Keel and Nathan were un­lucky to take a wicket but bowled tight. Levi and Bray­den chimed in at the end to take a wicket each fol­lowed by a run out by Keel and Ryan kept In­n­is­fail’s score at 8/65 at the end of their first in­nings. Coach Lee said the boys bowled and fielded the best they have all sea­son.

In­n­is­fail will travel to Port Dou­glas next Satur­day to play the sec­ond half of the match and with 60 runs ahead Mud­dies will be aim­ing at keep­ing their 3 wick­ets in hand to bat through an­other 32 overs to cre­ate a win.
