Shirley won three gold medals, one silver and three bronze medals in her Olympic career. And medals galore at the 1950 Auckland British Empire Games (equivalent to the Commonwealth Games), snagging herself three gold and two silvers. Shirley passed away in February 2004 and was honoured with a state funeral.
