Ski Mountaineering

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

The 2004 World Championship of Ski Mountaineering was the second World Championship of Ski Mountaineering sanctioned by the International Council for Ski Mountaineering Competitions (ISMC), held in the Spanish Aran Valley from March 1 to March 6, 2004. In a variation of the 2002 World Championship, a relay race and a vertical race competition were added. The competition was dominated by Switzerland, Italy and France, while America and the United Kingdom found themselves in 16th and 17th place respectively and Australia was nowhere to be found on the list of 29 countries – perhaps something to do with the modest amount of snow we see each year compared to the European countries.
