DSC report shows the progress, says Leu
MAYOR Julia Leu said the 2014-15 Annual Report formally adopted by Douglas Shire Council on Tuesday highlights the achievements of the new Council.
The annual report for Douglas Shire Council’s first full financial year of operations since de-amalgamation also details the financial statements, endorsed by the Queensland Audit Office.
Mayor Leu said the annual report was proof that Douglas Shire Council was financially sustainable and signified a bright future for the region.
“The better-than-expected financial statements show DSC has a really strong financial footing,” she said.
“Financial sustainability is the primary focus of our Council and this financial result – almost $4 million better than budgeted – is a remarkable result and demonstrates we are well on the way to securing the future of the Douglas Shire for ongoing generations.
“We have an extensive and unprecedented capital works program of almost $20 million this financial year, we’re securing federal and state government grants above what we budgeted for and we’re providing more than $750,000 in funding to community organisations annually.
“Council works with the community and business, including the state and federal governments to achieve a strong, vibrant and sustainable economy with job opportunities and an enjoyable lifestyle.
“It’s an outstanding achievement in such a short time, which is a tribute to our CEO, our general managers and all our staff who take so much pride in what they do.
“There’s absolutely no doubt de-amalgamation has been an outstanding success in the Douglas Shire and I urge everyone to go to Council’s website and see for themselves what a great position we’re in as a community.”
