Free domestic green waste disposal starts Saturday
DOUGLAS Shire Council is offering free domestic green waste disposal at Killaloe and Newell Beach Transfer Stations in preparation for the cyclone season.
The free domestic green waste disposal is available from Saturday, October 31 to Sun- day, November 8.
Mayor Julia Leu urged residents to take this opportunity to clean up their yards for the safety of themselves and their families before the start of the cyclone season.
“We all know the dangers posed by cyclones and it is im- perative living where we do to take any preventive measures we can,” Mayor Leu said.
“Domestic green waste can easily become projectiles in cyclonic winds and this is a great opportunity to tidy your yard of tree clippings, palm fronds, grass cuttings and other green waste so you’re well prepared in that regard before the start of the cyclone season.”
The free domestic green waste disposal offer applies only for domestic cars, utes and/or trailers and light trucks (vehicle weight to GVM 4 ton- nes) at Killaloe and Newell Beach Transfer Stations from October 31 to November 8.
If residents need help from a garden maintenance contractor to deliver green waste, they must make a request and provide information for approval by emailing enquiries@ douglas.qld.gov.au or call Council on 4099 9444 and request to speak with Waste Services.
