Free do­mes­tic green waste dis­posal starts Satur­day

DOU­GLAS Shire Coun­cil is of­fer­ing free do­mes­tic green waste dis­posal at Kil­laloe and Newell Beach Trans­fer Sta­tions in prepa­ra­tion for the cy­clone sea­son.

The free do­mes­tic green waste dis­posal is avail­able from Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 31 to Sun- day, Novem­ber 8.

Mayor Ju­lia Leu urged res­i­dents to take this op­por­tu­nity to clean up their yards for the safety of them­selves and their fam­i­lies be­fore the start of the cy­clone sea­son.

“We all know the dan­gers posed by cy­clones and it is im- per­a­tive liv­ing where we do to take any pre­ven­tive mea­sures we can,” Mayor Leu said.

“Do­mes­tic green waste can eas­ily be­come pro­jec­tiles in cy­clonic winds and this is a great op­por­tu­nity to tidy your yard of tree clip­pings, palm fronds, grass cut­tings and other green waste so you’re well pre­pared in that re­gard be­fore the start of the cy­clone sea­son.”

The free do­mes­tic green waste dis­posal of­fer ap­plies only for do­mes­tic cars, utes and/or trail­ers and light trucks (ve­hi­cle weight to GVM 4 ton- nes) at Kil­laloe and Newell Beach Trans­fer Sta­tions from Oc­to­ber 31 to Novem­ber 8.

If res­i­dents need help from a gar­den main­te­nance con­trac­tor to de­liver green waste, they must make a re­quest and pro­vide in­for­ma­tion for ap­proval by email­ing en­quiries@ dou­glas.qld.gov.au or call Coun­cil on 4099 9444 and re­quest to speak with Waste Ser­vices.
