A world-renowned trail-building company has been chosen to develop concept designs for the proposed Flagstaff Hill walking trail.

World Trail is a Cairnsbased company which has designed and constructed walking and mountain bike trails around Australia and the world, including most recently a walking track at the Boondall Wetlands in Brisbane and the Green Arrow Class 3 track at Mt Whitfield in Cairns.

Mayor Julia Leu said she was delighted by the progress of developing the Flagstaff Hill walking trail which will connect Four Mile Beach to the Port Douglas Waterfront.

“Glen Jacobs and his team at World Trail are recognised as leaders in their field internationally and I’m excited to see what they come up with.”

It is anticipated the concept designs will be completed before the end of the year.

Council will then seek feedback from the community on the concept designs before a final trail design is finalised and construction begins.

It is expected the trail length will be between 1km-1.5km and provide for disabled access to viewing platforms, connecting the Port Douglas Waterfront to Four Mile Beach.
