You could buy the longest bar
THE iconic Cow Bay Hotel will go under the hammer next month.
It will be auctioned at the Cairns Pullman International on December 3.
Colliers International Cairns managing director Stacey Quaid said the hotelmotel, on the cusp of the Daintree, could hardly have been in a more convenient location.
“With hundreds of thousands of people passing its door each year on the famed tourist drive to Cape Tribulation and beyond, the Cow Bay Hotel has a potential many would envy,” he said.
“With its substantial improvements and rustic charm this could be an ideal property for an experienced hotelier to bring the tavern and associated facilities to its full potential.
“Currently under management, the property is being offered with vacant possession enabling the new owner to de- termine the direction of the business”
The 1.1ha freehold property features multiple bars, distinctively finished with locally felled timber furnishings; a restaurant with a commercial kitchen; outdoor beer garden; six motel rooms; and a sizeable managers’ residence with adjacent staff accommodation.
But the hotel’s pièce de résistance is its pencil cedar bartop, which at 16m long is the longest continuous bar in Australia.
The hotel-motel is only a short drive from Cow Bay Beach and two hours north of Cairns.
Mr Quaid said the business had an extensive history in the area, and had already attracted “reasonable interest”.
“It’s quite a substantial property, more like a tavern than a quaint country pub,” he said.
“I think with bit of capital and some new ideas then the business might be able to grow from where it is today.”
