Lauren’s on a cause for animals

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS - Shane Nichols

LAUREN Giles, a final year student at Mossman High, has a message for the community: please, please look after your animals.

Having worked at Hands On Healing in Mossman in her spare time for the past five years she has seen the result of human neglect of animals and abuse of animals.

She is making part of her final year’s projects a campaign to raise public awareness of animal abuse and to urge people who see animal abuse to report it to the council or RSPCA. Abuse has various forms and sources.

“Sometimes I think people just get too lazy to look after animals properly,” says Lauren, who intends to be a vet after university. “They’re not bothering to take animals to a surgery to get vaccinated.

“I don’t think people fully understand the responsibilities of looking after an animal. For want of a better word, they’re lazy, pretty much.”
