DSC issues call for Carnivale tenders

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - BUSINESS -

DOUGLAS Shire Council is putting out the call for an event co-ordinator extraordinaire to manage Carnivale festivities in 2016-17.

The Douglas Chamber of Commerce handed the reins back to Council in September after successfully managing Carnivale for several years.

Carnivale is the feature of the Douglas Shire’s flourishing events calendar, attracting visitors from around Australia with a smorgasbord of fabulous food and wine-based events and providing plenty of entertainment for locals with community-based events such as the Macrossan St Parade and the Four Mile Beach Day.

Mayor Julia Leu said Council was looking for a passionate event co-ordinator or company to help reinvigorate Carnivale with fresh ideas and enthusiasm.

“Based on feedback from the community and the tourism industry, Council has brought Carnivale back to a three-day event instead of 10 days so more people have more opportunities to enjoy the major events,” Mayor Leu said.

“With a 10-day Carnivale, visitors in particular were less likely to be able to attend major events.”
