Two new liners will come to Cairns
TWO of P & O Cruises’ newest cruise ships – Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden due in Cairns next month – have been christened in Sydney Harbour before steaming north.
They helped the operator make history in Sydney yesterday, staging an unprecedented five-ship spectacular on the harbour to celebrate the arrival of the two cruise ships.
In a world first, the cruise line marked the debut of Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden with a social media naming ceremony, singer Jessica Mauboy and actor Kate Ritchie christening the ships via Twitter as the two vessels sailed either side of Fort Denison.
Pacific Aria arrives in Cairns for visits on December 3, returning on December 20 and 230. Pacific Eden spends the day on December 22.
In a historic first, Pacific Eden will be based in Cairns from September 10 next year, operating 10 itineraries, mainly to and from Papua New Guinea. The 1500 passenger ship is expected to inject more than $4 million into the city’s economy next year.
