When preparation is everything

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - THE GROOVE -

MAKE sure you have all you need when preparing for a cyclone.

Now is the time to clean up the yard while you can before the storm season starts.

Remove vegetation and rubbish, trim trees and de-nut palms.

To prepare the property when a storm or cyclone are forecast:

Tie down or pack away all outdoor items and furniture. Household tools can cause serious damage in high winds.

Cover windows and doors with timber sheeting or affix masking tape across the glass; close all doors.

Make sure your vehicle is full of fuel and parked under cover if possible.

Ensure your boat and caravan are garaged if possible.

If you must leave boats and caravans in the open, make every effort to secure them in a sheltered position with strong ropes.

Evacuate from caravans and tents.

If you are visiting the region, check with your accommodation provider about what you can do and where to go.

Fill drinking containers, your bathtub and your wheelie bin with water this water can be used to flush toilets if necessary.

Freeze water for alternative refrigeration in case of a power failure.
