Runs galore as T20 finals loom
THE makeup of the Muddies T20 Big Bash finals is to be finalised this weekend with two big games of cricket to be battled out.
On Friday night the battle of the basement took place with 5th place Sheratons GM’s 11 taking on the Reef Raiders. The Raiders batted first on a great batting deck and turned in an amazing team effort to put on a massive score of 213 runs.
Pistol Pete (23), Chicka (26), Adrian (22) and Jack (21no) supported big hitting Adam (44) to reach the season high total and put the pressure right on the Sheraton lads, none of whom had bowling figures to write home about.
The Raiders strutted out confidently and were ready to put the Sheraton team straight into the wooden spoon game. Ian (36no) and Suyash (46no) were not prepared to be humbled though and batted with great skill.
Unfortunately their efforts were not enough, the GM team falling 90 runs short in their chase.
Pete backed up his great batting with a sensational 2 for 2 off 2 overs.
In the Saturday night game, the B Team Blasters took on the Port Royals to push through to the next round. The Royals won the toss and elected to bat.
It was slow going initially with only 19 runs scored after the first 5 overs.
With plenty of wickets in the shed, Tony (15) and Dave (27) combined well to push the score along, Luke (31) helped push the Royals total to a defendable 102.
Doug took a handy 2 for 11 and Randal turning the game, with 2 for 14.
The Blasters had a slow start as well, limping to 36 after half of the overs were gone.
Randal (18), Matt A (14) and Nathan (13) tried to up the run rate, but it was too little too late, the Blasters falling 8 runs short.
Pitty was the best of the Royals bowlers, taking 2 for 14.
The penultimate round of the competition sees the minor premiers Four Mile Falcons looking to secure a grand final berth, taking on the Blasters at 3pm on Saturday.
The Port Royals will be looking to knock the Raiders out of the comp to make the final at 6:30pm.
Both games promise to be really action packed so why not get on down to the Mud Pit for a great night’s entertainment.
