CYCLING ON THE GO

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

More than five times more people in the Douglas Shire cycle to work compared to the rest of Queensland on average. A report produced by the state government, the Far North Queensland Principal Cycle Network Plan, shows 6.3 per cent of journey to work trips are made by bike in the Douglas Shire, the highest rate in Far North Queensland and higher than the Queensland average of 1.1 per cent. The plan identifies iconic recreational routes in the Douglas Shire including the Mowbray Loop, the Shannonvale Road Loop and Mossman Gorge Road as well as the long distance coastal route connecting Cairns and Cooktown via Cape Tribulation. Council is finalising a five-year cycleway capital works program that seeks to invest almost $2 million in cycling infrastructure.
