Arts boost for su­per six events

SIX lo­cal arts projects in the Dou­glas Shire have been funded as part of Coun­cil’s Re­gional Arts De­vel­op­ment Fund for 2015-2016.

“As Mayor and a RADF Com­mit­tee mem­ber I am pleased to an­nounce six ex­cit­ing lo­cal projects which will en­able our com­mu­ni­ties to share and par­tic­i­pate in arts and cul­ture,” Mayor Ju­lia Leu said.

“I’m con­tin­u­ally amazed by the di­ver­sity and depth of artis­tic tal­ent in the Dou­glas Shire and Coun­cil is very proud to sup­port th­ese wor­thy projects.”

The projects are: Gond­wana’s Gar­den ($3610) — A Port Dou­glas com­mu­nity ini­ti­ated art event that will cel­e­brate our trop­i­cal en­vi­ron­ment, while rais­ing pub­lic aware­ness and un­der­stand­ing of the value of the pro­posed Moss­man Botanic Gar­dens, through the dis­play of more than 60 in­di­vid­ual art works from about 20 pro­fes­sional artists from the re­gion.

Harp Ther­apy ($2500) — Harp mu­sic and sin­ga­long ses­sions for res­i­dents and pa­tients at Moss­man Hos­pi­tal.
