Prime Port site ripe for marina development
A PRISTINE waterfront site which covers more than an acre in the heart of Port Douglas is expected to draw the fancy of property developers from around the nation. The 4915sq m site, which is situated just a stone’s throw from the Port Douglas CBD, has a development approval in place for the marina and waterfront industry. The development approval will allow for all marina and water- related industries such as a jetty, boat storage, tourism ventures or fishing businesses, as well as other opportunities for commercial development. CBRE Cairns senior sales and leasing agent Rob Macfarlane said the commercial property market was moving on from a seasonal past into a more consistent period of trade. “There’s a lot happening in Port Douglas with the redevelopment of the marina mirage and Macrossan St is just booming with retail,” he said. “It’s really becoming a worldwide destination. “The market can be seasonal but I think it’s really pushing through that now — and the town has the Carnivale event coming up, so it’s a good time to be around the town. “It’s close to Cairns and there is a lot of scope and land around for further developments like residential, accommodation and hotels. “Port Douglas will go from strength to strength in the future.” The site also is just a one minute drive from the Reef Marina redevelopment. Mr Macfarlane said the Port St site was ideal for tourism or commercial operations that were looking to use the waterfront for their business ventures.
“The site’s size, relatively flat surface and frontage onto the water make it ideal — it’s a fairly straightforward block to develop,” he said. “The zoning allows for usage of the waterfront and it would be absolutely ideal for tourism, commercial fishing or charter boat companies. “It’s hard to say how much it could be worth at the moment, purely because it will depend on the buyer’s needs and plans for the site. That’s why we’ve allowed for an expression of interest period.” CBRE Cairns is currently seeking expressions of interest with a closing date of March 23.
