Green light for new attractions
TWO new tourist attractions are on track for the shire after the council showed its support at Tuesday’s meeting.
A development permit was approved for electric bike tours in Cape Tribulation, which will follow a loop course through the Daintree Rainforest.
The council also provided in-principle support for a proposed adventure park at Mowbray.
Mayor Julia Leu said both projects were shaping up as fabulous attractions: “The electric bike tours using existing rainforest tracks promote low impact eco-tourism and showcase the unique environmental character of the wet tropics,” she said.
“It provides an environmentally-friendly way to explore the rainforest and allows people of all ages and fitness levels to participate through the use of electrically-assisted mountain bikes.”
The Mowbray Adventure Park is proposed to become an education, sport and entertain- ment park divided into themed activity precincts based on adventure and an appreciation of nature. The park will have a bike track, skating area, multiuse sports course and an obstacle course.
“The Mowbray Adventure Park proposal also includes dormitory-style accommodation to facilitate school groups,” Ms Leu said.
“Both projects are fantastic concepts that offer a point of difference to what is currently available in the shire and have council’s full support.”
