My biggest barra was on a dead herring

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT - Jesse Wakefield

IT wasn’t my first barra but it sure was the biggest ...

About a week ago I was at a lake near St Crispins Avenue, Port Douglas.

I have been going there ever since I moved to the area about six months ago.

A few days earlier I lost this huge barra, but every night after I had returned in an effort to get it back.

So last Thursday, about 10pm, my line just started going off, and I knew straight away it was the one I had been looking for.

With the help of my mate Chris, I managed to reel it in after about half an hour.

It was 107cm long (left) and weighed about 25kg.

I was absolutely stoked. People had been saying I wasn’t going to catch a barra on a dead herring — but I proved them wrong.

It took a lot of patience though, but I was really determined to catch this fish.
