WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE ARE THE KEY ISSUES FACING TOURISM FOR THE DOUGLAS SHIRE?

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - BUSINESS -

Competition from elsewhere, including domestic and Asian beach resorts with growing marketing budgets. Tourism is vulnerable to external factors such as global economy, natural disasters including cyclones and global security. Ongoing private investment in tourism infrastructure. Perceptions of environmental damage to the Great Barrier Reef.

Apart the continual fight I know you guys battle with every day of such a vast promotional job using such a prohibitive available budget, I believe the continued carefully planned growth of the facilities in our region is a key issue. Enterprises such as the Mossman Botanic Gardens (MBG) and the rebirth of the Reef Marina should be supported and enhanced to demonstrate the quality and innovative growth of the area. The waterfront development will rejuvenate Port Douglas just as the Mossman Gorge and MBG will for Mossman. The council must develop a supporting role with you and the developers to maximise the results from our efforts.
