Junior Sharks enjoy gala day
LOCAL junior rugby league players toook part in a pre season gala day in Mareeba recently. The coaches said all teams played fantastic football. UNDER 6 The trip to Mareeba saw the U/6s play their first game of league. We couldn’t be more proud of the efforts everyone put in. Peyton, Jamal, Toby and Kingston lead well in attack, while Cassidy Lincoln ,little Zane Dallas and Diezel held the defence together with a win over Edmonton.
Man of the match went to Peyton Bowen for showing great leadership in defence and attack. UNDER 8 A team played Edmonton Lightning in torrential rain. A huge thank you goes to U/6 coach Chris Payne for stepping in to help.
It was great to see some old faces back playing for the Sharkies this season.
Defence was led well by Tyla Osborne, Joel Hatfield and Oliver Morana.
Rhett Hawkin always looking to score at every opportunity. Shannyn Osborne, the only girl in our team, didn’t let that worry her, managing to get over the line for a try.
Kezron Herbert, Cherinesha Marawili and Jake Langford tried hard all day. Man of the match went to a new junior Sharkie, Samuel King, who was fearless on the day. UNDER 9/10 A combined team of U/9s and 10s travelled to Mareeba. With only a couple of training sessions and many new players, the team performed very well.
Up against a strong Edmonton team the Sharks showed plenty of determination in their defence, led by the fearless EJ Bowen who chopped down the opposition all over the ground.
Ryder Smith showed he is serious about his footy this year, having an outstanding game at dummy half and was well assisted by newcomers Charlie, Jet and Colby.
Saxon Vizard got himself heavily involved, cutting the Edmonton defence to shreds, scoring a couple of brilliant tries and giving a perfect ball to Jermaine Ryan who showed great ability to support the ball carrier.
Kyan Alvoen also showed what he can do when he runs hard, scoring a pearler of a try up the middle of the ground.
Atticus, Seth and Charlene all played their first game for the Sharks and deserve a special mention . Man of the Match went to Ryder Smith for his determined effort. UNDER 12 The team produced an impressive 34-0 win over Edmonton. The cohesion was spectacular to watch as the Sharkies worked their magic .
Trent Day was remarkable with 3 tries and newcomer Shakara Gore showed the boys she was more than ready to play with 2 tries. Tyson Osborne’s attack was ferocious, scoring a try, and Fynn scored a convincing try in his first game for Mossman. Brodie Francis made a big return to the game and Bayley Morana showed 2016 was going to be his year. Conversions were made by Ryan (2) and Tyson, with the coach suitably impressed with the outstanding defense shown by the team.
