Coun­cil gets out the sand­bags

COUN­CIL put out the mes­sage yes­ter­day that it was mak­ing sand and sand­bags avail­able, as the shire turned a weather eye to­wards loom­ing days of wet weather and even a pos­si­ble cy­clone.

Coun­cil said Moss­man and Dain­tree River catch­ments are on Flood Watch as the Bureau of Me­te­o­rol­ogy warned of heavy mon­soonal rains in the next cou­ple of days, with daily falls of up to 100-150mm ex­pected and lo­calised falls of up to 200mm pos­si­ble.

River level rises above the mi­nor flood level are pos­si­ble and heavy rain­fall may also lead to lo­calised flash flood­ing.
