Earth Hour to switch off the lights in Port

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS - Madison Williams

QT Port Douglas will switch off for one hour this Saturday for Earth Hour to show their support for the “Places We Love”.

But don’t worry if you’re afraid of the dark, Estilo will be aglow with candlelight to keep away the monsters in the dark.

Local talent Katie Jay will be testing her talent and performing unplugged, with only the candlelight to add to the ambience.

Earth Hour aims to highlight that the celebrated outdoor lifestyle of Australia is under threat from rising temperatures and extreme weather changes caused by carbon pollution. Earth Hour 2016 asks the nation to switch off to protect the “Places We Love”. “The Great Barrier Reef and the Rainforest are our backyard and we love them, other people around the world also love them, so to make sure we keep them protected and safe we’re raising awareness,” said Sharon Timms, QT Port Douglas PR and Events Coordinator.

The event kicks off at 7pm and is offering a $10 woodfired pizza menu and $5 draft beers. QT will be plunged into darkness between 8:30pm and 9:30pm. Estilo at QT will also be the unofficial post-party venue for the council elections on Saturday.
