A three-day local government talkfest scheduled for Port Douglas in early September is likely to boost the local economy by around $500,000. The Local Government Managers Australia Queensland Annual Conference will be held in Port Douglas from 6-8 September. Douglas Shire Council CEO Linda Cardew said securing the annual conference for Port Douglas was a real coup for the region and would bring direct and indirect economic benefits. “The conference will bring at least 120 of Queensland’s most innovative and experienced local government executives to the Douglas Shire,” Ms Cardew said. In 2015 Ms Cardew accepted the Women in Local Government award on behalf of Douglas Shire Council at the LGMA Awards for Excellence in Local Government in recognition for its leadership in supporting women in the workforce.
