A tough round in the heat for Crocs

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT -

Round three’s game was in hot and humid conditions. In a tough battle against the Saints ruckwork and long kicking were the stand out features. A plane flying nearby diverted some of the player’s attention while they debated if it was a real or remote control, a flying red sherrin nearly hitting their heads put an end to that debate. Once again our defensive side of the game is improving. Great teamwork resulted in Cooper kicking the goal of the day.

Player of the week awards went to Harry, Xavier and Campbell.

Navy was against a very solid and defensive Saints outfit. The Crocs were persistent and ran hard all day. Cooper, James and Alex all kicked goals. Kobe, Riley and Caleb were the award winners. It was a great effort by all the boys!

It was hot, it was tough and aggressive as the Crocs travelled to Watsons Oval for their first hit out against the Saints! Oscar Cooper and Tyler Radley put points on the scoreboard early but the lead was short lived when the Saints answered back with a few quick goals. The tackling was hard the bumps were brutal but that didn’t stop our boys from doing what they know best with Jesse Kiddy and Ben Johnston both slotting it between the sticks! Locky O’Lochlin and Taj Uwland dominated the third due to the brilliant center clearances form captain Tristan Pottle. The Saints were fresh heading into the final quarter utilizing their interchange but great defensive work from the Johnston Twins, Tim and Ben kept the opposition at bay.

The Crocs U15s took on the North Cairns Tigers at Watson’s Oval. The Crocs had a tough assignment in the heat with a few players missing and no bench to rest players. Ryan Doble, Marley Brown, Daniel Davidson and Chas Allen all started well winning plenty of ball in the mid field. Forwards Lachlan Mouse, Nathan Deuble, Asher Shaw and Jake Read all worked hard to provide good targets.

With the backs Noah Short, River Howsen,Tom Harvey and Jack Johnson all pressuring their opponents well, it allowed Max McClelland and Reuben Allison the opportunity to run forward.

With the scores close at three-quarter time the boys lifted in the last term to earn a well deserved first win for the season. Great effort by all the players. Final scores Crocs 7-4-46 defeated Tigers 4-3-27. Goal kickers Ryan 3, Marley 1, Daniel 1, Asher 1 and Lachy 1. On Friday an undermanned Port Colts side played Pyramid Power but showed real ticker and fought the whole game. By the thrid quarter they were only three goals behind. Unfortunately the Power boys, with the extra bodies, scored four goals to Colts’ one and finished the game well ahead. Nonetheless the Port boys put together a couple of real highlights.

Final score Port: 4.5.29 def by Power 11.14.80

Awards were: Braden Wall and Rory McHugh
