WHAT’S A SLASHIE?

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - NEWS -

Coconut has just learned he is a slashie. It’s a glamourous new term for people with multiple jobs. Though come to think of it Coconut’s poor old dad always had multiple jobs and there was nothing very glamourous about it, thank you very much. Now however, if you are of a modern bent, then your scrabbled mixture of survival-minded ways of making a buck — in Coconut’s case his freelance journalism slash beachcombing — is recognised as a valid, indeed, clever, way to be seen as interesting in this very fickle jobs market. Until now Coconut had thought “slashie” was the term for a bloke who operates a vegetation management device for the council. If that bloke has a second job then he’d be a slashie slashie or something . . . don’t know, the modern times are very confusing.
