Just a cat fish but so exciting

Port Douglas & Mossman Gazette - - SPORT - Diana Sydorovych

I still remember my first fish. I was fishing with my dad back in Ukraine when I was about 8.

We used to fish with worms and he went off to get some and just left me there. I caught a catfish just then and I was running towards him holding this fish in both my hands, on this rocky, slippery surface and then I just went splat! I skinned my knees, blood everywhere, and I’m so excited I didn’t even notice. I picked up the fish and kept running!

We live on the Mornington Peninsula. We catch quite a lot of carp in the streams there and some squid from the pier on the ocean.

We’re here on holiday for a few days. I wasn’t planning to fish but then I thought why not and I asked the people at the hotel about how to go fishing here.

The people at the fishing store rented us the rods and gave us some information.

Fishing is not expensive like this and good for families to do. We have little kids and we look around for things to do that don’t cost too much.
