Orchid show colours

THE Dou­glas Orchid So­ci­ety show in Moss­man on Satur­day was pop­u­lar once again. In all 117 pot­ted orchids were on show, along with 28 flo­ral art ar­range­ments and 20 cut flow­ers.

Club pres­i­dent Ron Sav­age said it was a suc­cess­ful show with good vis­i­tor at­ten­dance de­spite the early rain. The Moss­man State High School Band, con­ducted by Jenny Guy­att, was fol­lowed by Linda Irvine on Pi­ano.

Judg­ing re­sults: Cham­pion Orchid – Cris­tine Cas­tle. Re­serve Cham­pion Orchid – Joan Gray. Best Spec­i­men Orchid – Joan Gray. Best Aus­tralian Na­tive Orchid – Trevor Ford. Cham­pion Flo­ral Art Open Class – Cathy Ford. Re­serve Cham­pion Flo­ral Art Open Class – Dawn Bur­row. Cham­pion Flo­ral Art Novice Class - Les­lie-ann Ron­ald­son. Re­serve Cham­pion Flo­ral Art Novice Class – Cris­tine Cas­tle.

The next orchid dis­play will be on May 20-22 at the Port Dou­glas Com­mu­nity Cen­tre as part of Car­ni­vale.

DOS’s next meet­ing will be a buy­ing trip on the June 12.
