— trailer love
SMART fishos use downtime when it’s too windy for fishing to do gear maintenance. That includes your good old trailer. Andrew Rich of Bransfords Tackle says many fishos ignore trailer maintenance at their peril (and everyone else’s when the thing seizes up at the boat ramp!). So here’s a tip: inspect the bearings at least every six months. They can do with a re-grease, even if you haven’t been using the trailer much. Repack them and help the bearings avoid salt infiltration. It takes about 20 minutes per wheel. And when you get to the ramp, make sure you let the bearings cool down for half an hour before they get wet. In fact don’t submerge them at the ramp at all, if possible.
