DSC funds two new projects
TWO new projects have been successful under Douglas Shire Council’s inaugural Business Development Fund.
The Business Development Fund was announced as a new economic development initiative by Council at the inaugural Douglas Business Forum in November last year.
The purpose of the BDF is to help support and create opportunities for local businesses, industries and not-for-profit organisations to grow and diversify the Douglas economy. The successful BDF applicants were:
Freeride Electric Adventure Tours ($4000) - for assistance to establish a new electric bike start-up tour business in the Daintree-Cape Tribulation area.
Daintree Marketing Cooperative ($3500) – to develop 30-second, 60-second and three-minute digital videos to promote the businesses and attractions in the Daintree region.
Mayor Julia Leu said Council was encouraged by the quality of the successful appli- cations and the potential for them to add value to the local economy.
“The Douglas Shire is renowned as an adventure destination and the Freeride Electric Adventure Tours business is an exciting new venture that provides a unique rainforest experience,” Mayor Leu said.
“The Daintree Marketing Cooperative’s proposal will showcase the destination and local operators to new audiences and attract visitors to the Douglas Shire who may have been considering other holiday destinations.
“I’m delighted by the outcome of Council’s inaugural Business Development Fund which I’m very proud to confirm will be offered again in the 2016-17 financial year.”
